Hi everyone! Happy Friday!! We made it. This morning, I made a tiny typo in a newsletter sent to 57,000 people. If you read it, I hope you didn’t notice. If you caught it, I hope you thought, ‘Oh, that’s not exactly right, but I know what she meant.’ Maybe you laughed.
In other news…
“It’s really not fun,” a friend told me, referring to the Met Gala. She’s been ten times. You hate to hear it. Still, I watched the livestream Monday night and found myself wincing at all the aggressive yelling. “Turn around!!” “To your right!!” “Over your shoulder!!” Everyone’s taking themselves too seriously.
Speaking of the Met, can you guess how much money a manicurist invests to work an event like that? For context, they need a 70-pound suitcase with mani-pedi supplies to bring to the client’s hotel room (The Mark): gel polish and regular polish in every color, acetone, foils, files, clippers, and a collapsible stool to sit on. Still, I was floored by the total!
After months of rumors, the patent on SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic has officially expired. At least three of my close friends credit their good skin to using this stuff twice daily (yes, you can use a gentle vitamin C at night, too). I texted one asking why she loves it, and she wrote back:
Though now that the patent is public, other brands have access to the C E special sauce, and they’re (smartly) making dupes. This is the most promising one at $16. I’m sure they cut a few corners, but in this economy, at one-eleventh of the price, it’s worth considering.
A setting spray that isn’t just alcohol. I met up with my friend and makeup artist Rose Marie Swift this week. She introduced me to her new RMS Setting Spray. I don’t use setting spray for the same reason I don’t use powder: It dries the f out of my skin. But this is different. Because it’s free of alcohol, the finish is dewy and radiant, like you just finished a good red light therapy session. I will use it for every wedding because, apparently, setting spray between each layer is the key to keeping your face on for 16 hours.
Searching for the perfect white t-shirt. I’ve been compiling so many recs. I wanted to drop a few here. If you need long sleeves, go with this one from Banana. Samira, the EIC of Bazaar, says the Rachel Comey one is perfect. Final sale, but this tee with a gentle drape is fabulous. Or, you’d be safe with the name on every fashion person’s lips: Sold Out NYC.
I keep seeing this chocolate brown hair color everywhere. It’s rich.
Ditto on this burgundy rope cord necklace. Less expensive than it looks.
A sweet reminder of the power of your village. I love that these women secretly schemed to cover their friend’s sitter so she could meet them for (9pm!) dinner.
Okay, signing off! I’m getting a medium chocolate peanut butter banana pudding tonight or tomorrow. Have a great weekend!
Love,
Megan
